Position Summary:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering and Business at Gannon University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering. The nine-month appointment will begin in August 2025. The successful candidate will have significant professional and/or research experience in the fluid/thermal sciences (CFD experience is a plus) and will teach undergraduate and graduate engineering courses. The candidate will also develop and manage a sustainable research program and will have a key role in developing pioneering industry collaborations and research initiatives by engaging with internal/external program stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The functions below are detailed in the faculty handbook in http://my.gannon.edu/intra/offices/depts/provost/nancy/Volume%20IV%20approved%20by%20BOT.doc of the Institutional Policy Manual.
1. Teach 24 credit hours in the academic year or as otherwise specified by the faculty member's appointment notice; student course evaluations are to be completed in each course. This position is eligible to apply for up to six credits of release time per academic year. Faculty are expected to employ sound pedagogical practices and to use technology as appropriate, including the University's learning management system. Faculty shall assist with course revisions and curriculum development as needed.

2. Achieve appropriate student-learning outcomes in all courses taught.

3. Engage in scholarly pursuits pertinent to their academic discipline. Scholarship as defined by the Boyer model includes: scholarship of discovery, scholarship of integration, scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching, and scholarship of engagement.

4. Participate in service to the University, the community, and to their profession. Attend convocations, commencement exercises, and community meetings.

5. Participate in ongoing professional development.

6. Assist, advise, and mentor students enrolled at the University.

7. Fulfill the essential duties and responsibilities of a faculty member as described in Volume IV of the Gannon University Institutional Policy Manual which contains the approved policies and procedures of the University concerning the terms and conditions of faculty employment at the University.

CONTACT WITH OTHERS Internal: Has regular contact with faculty, staff, and students.

External: Has contact with partners, employers, outside vendors, prospective students, and parents.

Required Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field with significant professional and/or research experience in the fluid/thermal sciences is preferred, with experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) a plus. The College maintains a high-performance computing (HPC) cluster. Computational and/or experimental background is a plus, and previous academic experience is preferred. Candidates expecting to complete their dissertation by August 1, 2025 will be considered.

Rank: In accordance with the University's standards, the Vice President for Academic Affairs awards initial rank at the time of employment. Completion of dissertation is required for rank of Visiting Assistant Professor.
