Open Rank Professor (Continuing Track) Biomedical Engineering
Biomedical Systems Modeling and Instrumentation

The Biomedical Engineering Department (BME, www.bme.udel.edu) at the University of Delaware (UD) invites applications for an open-rank faculty position in the Continuing Track. This position will have a workload consisting of 75% teaching, 15% service, and 10% research (with ratios subject to change based on departmental needs). The ideal candidate for this position will be qualified to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in the areas of biomedical systems modeling, instrumentation, imaging, and data analysis. This position will also support the department’s new online Master’s program in pharmaceutical modeling, scheduled to launch in Fall 2025.

The continuing track (CT) is UD’s full-time, continuing faculty line, similar to the tenure track. CT faculty enjoy contracts that increase in length over time and, like tenure-track faculty, receive full and generous benefits, including family-friendly benefits, as part of their compensation package. CT faculty hold professorial rank and have a path to promotion up to full professor. All CT faculty earn sabbaticals, have opportunities to pursue research, participate in shared governance, and hold academic leadership positions. In the BME department, CT faculty are primarily engaged in teaching undergraduate courses, but also teach technical electives or graduate-level courses, and are encouraged to develop their technical electives or graduate-level courses depending on other course offerings and department needs. Launched in 2010, UD BME is ABET accredited with world class research programs in disease modeling, neuroengineering, musculoskeletal biomechanics, cell and tissue engineering, drug delivery, and nanomedicine. Biomedical systems modeling, instrumentation, imaging, and data analysis are built into the BME curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. UD BME has a strong history of collaboration between experimental and computational researchers. UD BME strives for an inclusive and equitable culture and has ambitious plans to continue growing. Successful applicants will share our vision to be a BME department that is recognized for high impact research and for delivering an exceptional engineering education. We seek creative individuals, who are eager to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment, capable of developing and teaching outstanding courses and contributing to a climate that attracts and affirms students from diverse backgrounds.
