Industrial Engineering Teaching Faculty (Open Rank)
The Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing invites applications for multiple Industrial Engineering professional-track teaching faculty positions to begin July 2025. Industrial Engineering is the newest undergraduate engineering program at the University of South Carolina and admits its first class of students in Fall 2025. Appointment to one of these inaugural faculty positions provides an opportunity to work in a collaborative environment to create an exciting and future-relevant educational program in a high-demand discipline.
The primary responsibility will be developing, teaching, and continuously improving undergraduate industrial engineering courses and curricula in one of three general areas: operations (operations research, supply chain, simulation), quality (production engineering, quality, facilities planning), or manufacturing (materials, smart manufacturing, human factors and ergonomics). Additional responsibilities include directing laboratory or capstone design courses and coordinating accreditation activities. All positions will be responsible for faculty governance and academic affairs. Each is an 11-month appointment with an expected teaching load of four industrial engineering courses each taught twice per year (3 fall, 3 spring, 2 summer). The minimum contract length is one year for the initial hire. A three-year contract is expected after the first renewal, as are opportunities for professional advancement. Appointments will be made within the Teaching Professor, Lecturer, or Professor of Practice tracks, depending on each candidate’s specific qualifications and interests.
Qualifications include a blend of education, teaching experience, and industry experience that qualifies for teaching undergraduate and graduate-level industrial engineering courses, strong organizational and communication skills, demonstrated collaboration skills, and an ability to adapt to learner needs. Teaching Professor track appointments require a doctorate in engineering. Lecturer track and Professor of Practice appointments normally require a master’s degree in engineering or master’s degree with a concentration in engineering. A proven reputation in professional achievement and expertise, experience, and international/national recognition in industrial engineering may be considered in addition to or in lieu of educational requirements.
