Endowed Professor in Design and Director of the Design Initiative at Dartmouth
Thayer School of Engineering
Dartmouth College seeks an innovative, collaborative, and experienced leader to serve as an Endowed Professor in Design and the inaugural Director of the Design Initiative at Dartmouth (DIAD: https://engineering.dartmouth.edu/design/diad), an academic, co-curricular, and research program situated within Dartmouth’s Thayer School of Engineering (https://engineering.dartmouth.edu/).
An outstanding candidate is sought with international prominence in a design-related field who embodies elements of human-centered design, design thinking, systems thinking, engineering design, and/or creative problem solving. Candidates with disciplinary expertise in engineering that amplifies their ability to apply design in the broad interdisciplinary context of Thayer School are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates should have an established record of leadership, excellence in teaching, and externally funded research or creative practice commensurate with an endowed, full or associate professor appointment within the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth.
DIAD was formed in 2022 to combine engineering and the liberal arts with the methods and mindsets of design thinking to empower creative, collaborative, ethical innovators to imagine and forge better futures. DIAD supports experiential learning in design, interdisciplinary collaborations, and applied research with significant potential for societal benefits. The successful candidate will leverage DIAD’s early momentum by expanding the initiative into a thriving presence on the Dartmouth campus demonstrating leadership in design education and catalyzing globally relevant societal impacts.
