Position Summary

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Detroit-Mercy College of Engineering & Science invites applicants for a tenure track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Electrical or Computer Engineering starting August 16, 2025. An earned doctorate in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering. Applications from all Electrical or Computer Engineering sub-disciplines will be reviewed with preference for candidates with experience in Electric Vehicles, Power Electronics, or Intelligent Systems.

We are interested in candidates who can play an active role in the University of Detroit Mercy’s mission, including the support of historically minoritized students majoring in science and engineering disciplines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Faculty are expected to teach a variety of courses based on the needs of the department and students. In addition, faculty are expected to develop a research program involving the supervision of undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students, seek external funding, and publish in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings.

Requirements

• Earned doctorate or equivalent in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, completed in advance of hiring start date.

• A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

• A commitment to innovative, evidenced-based student-focused education practices.

• Record of scholarly publications and research.

• Evidence indicating promise of service to the department, college, university, and community in alignment with the mission of the university

• Experience in the areas of electrical vehicles, power electronics, power distribution, signal processing, or deep learning.

Preferred qualities

• Experience teaching courses in a college setting or relevant instructional experience.

• Experience with hands-on design projects and laboratory work.

• Experience with student-centered support and teaching methodologies

• Industry experience
