The Department of Engineering Education, previously the Centre for Engineering Professional Practice and Engineering Education, at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a Faculty position at the rank of Instructor I or II. This position will support the teaching capacity for professional practice courses which are core courses in all five undergraduate engineering programs in the Price Faculty of Engineering. Applicants must have experience in engineering economics and either the impact of engineering and technology on society and the environment, or engineering communication, with a strong commitment to engineering education and pedagogy. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach the technical and professional engineering curriculum at the undergraduate level and provide service to the Price Faculty of Engineering, the University of Manitoba, and professional communities.

Qualifications:


Applicants must hold a graduate degree (Master's or its equivalent) in a discipline relevant to Engineering Education that prepares them to teach engineering professional practice courses. Applicants with the ability to teach other technical engineering courses as well as engineering design courses are preferred. Appointments at the rank of Instructor I require a Master’s degree or its equivalent and appointment to the rank of Instructor II are restricted to those who hold a Master’s degree or its equivalent and who have 5 or more years’ experience in a university or equivalent position.

Applicants eligible for registration with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba who hold an undergraduate degree in engineering from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) accredited program and have experience in engineering practice are preferred. In that case, the applicant will be encouraged to register or pursue registration as an Intern or P.Eng., as appropriate.

Applicants must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in the English language. Three or more years’ teaching experience in a post-secondary environment preferred. Experience in accreditation of engineering programs, and with the development and implementation of processes and tools to evaluate and document student learning in the CEAB graduate attributes preferred.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide a teaching dossier up to a maximum of 15 pages including a one-page teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching performance, and examples of teaching materials (see sample teaching dossier for content examples) as well as names and contact information of three referees.
